NFL Relieved (again) of Looming Windbag

I used to have a lot of admiration for the Daily Show research staff (I still do), with what ease they seem to find damning clips of Hannity, Beck, et al saying truly idiotic things. But it’s actually pretty easy. All you have to do is read the newspaper.

It seems Rush “I’m not a caver” Limbaugh has been dropped by the group looking to buy the St. Louis Rams. I will now quote my local paper, quoting Limbaugh: “This is not about the NFL. It’s not about the St. Louis Rams. It’s not about me… This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to the prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is a prominent as a conservative… Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.” Read the rest of this entry »

They’re Not Conservatives

I have an idea. Let’s stop calling them “conservatives.” Let’s stop calling them “right-wing,” or anything else that has the connotations of a political philosophy. Let’s call them “Republicans,” and by doing so let’s recognize the word is a team name only, no different than calling them The Elephants or the GoP.

Because they don’t vouch for any kind of political ideal anymore. They are strictly anti-Obama. Whatever Obama wants, they’re opposed to, regardless of what it means. You know people like this—ask them who their favorite football team is, and they’ll say “whoever’s playing against the 49ers.” Or the Yankees. Or the Lakers. Read the rest of this entry »

Another Republican Bites the Scandal Dust

So the Republican Governor of South Carolina had an affair. Yawn. I’m getting pretty bored with Republican scandals. In fact, let’s go ahead and put that word in quotation marks: ho hum, another routine Republican “scandal.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Specter of Change

I’m what you call an expert political analyst, not from the standpoint of knowing what I talk about, but from the stand point of NOT knowing what I talk about. Chances are, you do not have a degree in political science, or a back ground in politics. Neither do I, so we’re on the same wavelength. I’ll go read up on Pennsylvania Phil*, then tell you what I think about it, and I’ll do it in language you and I speak.

I’ve used the analogy before- when experts write how-to books, they are writing them for people who have the potential to be experts. And really, the one way to be really great at something is to do it a lot. No how-to book can take the place of practice, and once you’ve logged a thousand hours practicing, no how-to book is going to tell you anything new.

So on to Mr. Specter. He’s leaving the GoP to become a full-fledged democrat. Hooray? (Sure—if only because it makes the pundits mad.) Rush Limbaugh is glad Arlen’s leaving, since now the republican will be even more conservative than before. Specter was too liberal, you see. Hannity had the same thing to say, speaking with Newt Gingrich. With Specter going, the GoP has even better chance of showing themselves off as the party diametrically opposed to Obama.

So much for bipartisanship. Both Limbaugh and Hannity point out that Specter has been losing ground back at home, and he switched sides so he wouldn’t have to fight for the republican nomination. This is all about getting elected they say. Then what do you call it when you declare the party must define itself as the anti-Obama party? Newt compared it to what Reagan did going up against Carter. If that’s not about getting votes, I don’t know what it is.

It’s certainly not about getting anything actually done.

That’s my take on it, anyway. There’s a bunch of nonsense about some bill that involving union voting, and how Arlen’s going to have to flip-flop now that he’s flip-flopped. (Remember: real conservatives hate worker’s rights).

I’m going to go see what Coulter has to say. Then I’m going to watch the Daily show and the Colbert report and get, you know, real analysis.

*This is supposed to be a joke about Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, and seeing one’s shadow, and winter, and all manner of metaphor that I pretty much lost track of before I even started.

I Listened to Rush Today

Actually, I tune in if I am near an am radio between 9 and noon, weekdays. I’ve talked about why: the man’s buffonery entertains me. And though he always spouts the same rhetoric and nonsense, none of it seems to stick. What does stick? Well, one thing is his constantly mentioning that he is a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee.

Yes, you read that right. He has been nominated by the Landmark Legal Foundation. Are they a conservative group? Does Rush sit on their advisory board? Why yes, yes of course! This is the group that issue complaints to the IRS about the NEA, claiming that they should not be considered a non-profit, since they have political ties.

But let’s not argue about that. Let’s just point who else has been nominated– and who has won, recent Peace Prizes: Jimmy Carter, Yassar Arafat, Al Gore… these are people that Rush really identifies with, aren’t they?

No.

Were Sorry, Mr. Postal Union Thug

Man, I am almost ashamed to admit it: I LOVE listening to Rush Limbaugh. No one delivers such a constant, consistent stream of idiocy, stupidity, and hypocrisy. The man truly has talent on loan from God, because no mere human could perpetrate this much crap for this long.

Apparently there was some issue with The Postal Carrier Union’s politics. Someone said the union ignored republican candidates, and endorsed only democrats. Then the head of the union wrote to Rush to tell him it’s not true. So Rush sarcastically “apologized” on air, and got a slough of calls about it. One guy told him to take the apology back, because the Union really did, at some time, promote a democrat and not a republican. Another caller suggested that even though he thinks Rush is right about the union’s politics, he thought the Union leader did a good job negotiating their most recent contract. The following is from Rush’s website’s transcript:

RUSH: Its a good contract?

CALLER: Its a good contract. Normally we go to binding arbitration, but this time we didnt have to go to binding arbitrations, they negotiated a good contract.

RUSH: Great. That means the taxpayers get screwed again. Well, congratulations.

CALLER: No.

RUSH: [Laughing]. Well, who pays the letter carriers? Thanks, Richard.

On today’s show, another carrier called in to set Rush straight. Taxes don’t pay for the US Postal Service, and haven’t for more than 30 years. I knew that, why didn’t Rush? A man who calls himself educated, brilliant, a genius? What was Rush’s reply? He asks the man “who pays for the stamps that fund the Postal Service? Taxpayers. So I was partially right.” That’s not just dumb, it’s borderline moronic.

I like Rush because he can spin ANYTHING into proof that liberals are evil and conservatives are God’s Chosen people. ANYTHING. Substance? Substance has NO place on the radio, or media in general.
